Accounts and roles

Everything in FairGame belongs to an organization — your club, your federation, or just you. Tournaments, teams, venues and templates live inside it, and the people you invite get access to all of them.

Signing in

There are two ways in, and they reach the same account:

  • An email code. Type your address and FairGame sends an 8-digit code that is good for a few minutes. If you have never signed in before, the account is created for you — there is no password to choose. If you reload the page while the code is on its way, the code screen comes back for the same address; once the code has expired, the page says so and lets you send a new one.
  • Continue with Google. Use your Google account to sign in. If you first signed up with Google, keep using this button.

The sign-in page initially follows your device’s light or dark appearance. Use the sun or moon button beside the language selector to switch; your choice is remembered in this browser.

The first time you sign in you are asked how you will use FairGame: Organizer if you are running a tournament, Coach if you are registering your club's teams into someone else's. Parent, athlete and sponsor views are not available yet. The choice is not permanent — Switch role in the account menu on the tournament list. Inside a tournament, return to All tournaments first.

You stay signed in while you work: every five minutes, while the tab is in view, FairGame renews your session in the background, so a control room left open all Saturday does not quietly log you out. If a session does run out, the sign-in page says Your session expired — sign in to continue where you were. Sign in and you are back on the screen you were using.

Your organization

An organizer signing in for the first time names their organization. It is the name your members see, the name on invitations, and the name on your public tournament pages.

Renaming it is safe. Your public address — the part of the URL that identifies you — stays the same after a rename, so existing links, QR codes and printed match cards keep working. Only organizers can rename the organization.

Inviting people

Preferences → Members lists everyone with access. Open Invite a member to enter an email address and role; they receive sign-in instructions and join the same organization. Members is available only to organizers and platform administrators.

The roles are:

RoleWhat it can do
OrganizerManage every tournament in the organization, and invite more members.
Club adminAct for a club — register its teams, keep its details current.
RefereeAssigned to matches, and enters their results.
PlayerAppears on a team roster.
Platform adminFairGame staff. Not something you assign.

Members can be removed, and lose access to the organization immediately. An organization must always keep at least one organizer, so the last one cannot be removed — promote someone else first.

Invite the person who will be on the pitch, not only the person who built the tournament

The Saturday morning problem is always the same: one account holder, one laptop, and nobody else able to fix a score. Adding a second organizer costs nothing and removes the single point of failure.

Emails from FairGame

Apart from sign-in codes, invitations and the emails your own tournaments send, FairGame emails your account once each time a new What's New post goes up on the FairGame blog: the short version of what changed, a link to the full post, links to the few before it, and a separate list of the newest other articles on the blog. It arrives in the language you use FairGame in (see Languages), and its links open the posts in that language.

Every one ends with Unsubscribe from product updates. That stops these emails and nothing else — sign-in codes, invitations and tournament emails still arrive.

Languages

The admin app ships in ten languages and picks up your browser’s language on first load. Open the account menu using your avatar at the bottom of the sidebar, then Preferences → General → Language. The tournament list also has a Settings entry in its header. This is account Settings, separate from the pinned tournament Settings link. Your language is saved to your account and follows you to devices where you have not chosen a local language; What’s New emails follow it too, and so do the emails you send from the admin app, such as the mis-rating report and announcements.

The public tournament site and these docs are translated separately — a visitor reads them in their own language whatever you use.

Appearance

Preferences → General → Appearance offers Light, Dark and System. System follows your device and is the default; saved legacy colour schemes fall back to System. The choice is saved in this browser and changes only your view of the admin app.

Working with several organizations

One sign-in can belong to several organizations. Organization switching is available only on the tournament list, using the selector beside the FairGame wordmark. From a tournament, choose All tournaments in the tournament dropdown or select the FairGame wordmark to return there. What you see always belongs to the selected organization.
